Bariatrics Update for 2020

Learning Objectives:

  • Assess which patients may benefit from a discussion about bariatric surgery
  • Distinguish for patients’ misconceptions of surgical interventions for weight loss
  • Illustrate how to care for patients after undergoing surgical weight loss treatment

Robert Berger, MD, FACS

Dr. Berger received his medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, where he also completed his internship in surgery and finished residency in general surgery. He then completed his fellowship in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery with emphasis on bariatrics at the University of Illinois - Chicago.  Dr. Berger then moved to Flagstaff, AZ where he is proud to have started the Bariatric Surgery Center at Flagstaff Medical Center in 2004 and has also served continuously as the medical director.  Dr. Berger is board-certified and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is passionate about his involvement on a number of boards, committees, and the opportunities he’s had as a speaker and writer published in various medical journals and beyond.  Dr. Berger is continually advancing surgery options and procedures in his various fields of interest, always focusing on patient comfort through their journey.  When Dr. Berger is not caring for patients at Flagstaff Surgical Associates, he spends time with his wife and children enjoying the Arizona outdoors.
