Finding Health: Indigenous Ways of Knowing

Session Objectives: 

  1. Discuss Maine's Truth & Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and describe how the work of the TRC and Maine-Wabanaki REACH was translated into the film Dawnland
  2. Understand the ways indigenous people are healing and finding wellness.
  3. Explain the importance of Wabanaki values in healing and community wellness.
  4. Define intergenerational trauma and historical trauma and effects of this trauma.
  5. Illustrate potential modifications in the medical and psychiatric approach for Maine's Indigenous population and describe innovative practices for healing from Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness.
