Learning Objectives:

Acute and Chronic Tendon Injuries

  • Understand basic tendon architecture
  • Know which acute tendon injuries you can treat conservatively and which need to be referred on for consideration of surgery
  • Understand utility of specific physical exam maneuvers in the evaluation of tendon injuries
  • Have a better understanding of the pathophysiology in chronic tendinopathy
  • Know basic tenets of initial management in chronic tendinopathy

 

Rash in the Office

  • Review the dermatology naming conventions for rashes and skin lesions
  • Recognize 10 common rashes in office practice
  • Understand how to treat the common office rashes presented

 

The Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 2 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Dr. Eric Reynolds is a physician of sports medicine and pediatrics. He grew up in Coralville Iowa before completing his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Iowa in 2010 and 2014 respectively. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the University ofNew Mexico in 2017 before completing one year as chief resident in 2018. He then moved to Cleveland, OH where he completed his primary care sports medicine fellowship at University Hospitals/Rainbow Babies and Children in 2019 treating patients and athletes of all ages while working with local high schools, Kent State University, and the Cleveland Browns.After completing fellowship, he moved to the Des Moines area and started a sports medicine practice with MercyOne in November 2019. He combines his sports practice with being medical director of the pediatric urgent care.

Dr. Reynolds specializes in musculoskeletal complaints, diagnostic ultrasound, and concussion management with associated return-to-play decisions. He has expertise in diagnosing and managing many common musculoskeletal injuries for patients of all ages such as acute muscle or ligament injury, non-surgical fractures, osteoarthritis -including ultrasound guided injections of any joint, stress fractures, exercise associated syncope and dyspnea, and pediatric overuse injuries.

Bret Ripley, DO, specializes in Family Medicine at MercyOne South Des Moines Family Medicine & Urgent Care Clinic in Des Moines, Iowa.Dr. Ripley completed hisosteopathic training at then Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine now called A.T. Still University -Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2001. As an undergraduate he spent an extra year in training to complete my Fellowship in Osteopathic Manipulation as well as my Doctor of Osteopathy degree. HisResidency in family medicine was at the United Health Services -Wilson Medical Center Family Medicine Residency in 2004. Since graduation, he has completed the Faculty Development Fellowship at the University of North Carolina -Chapel Hill (2009) and the Physician Leadership Institute Leadership Fellowship through the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (2013).Dr. Ripley is the 2021 Midwinter Conference Chairperson and Iowa ChapterACOFP President-Elect.
