Description

2.1 million adolescents aged 12 to 17 in the United States had at least one major depressive episode in the past year with severe impairment.  Psychiatrist John Zaharopoulos, DO discusses the presentation of depression and anxiety in children and adolescents.

John Zaharopoulos, DO received his degree in osteopathic medicine from A. T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency and a fellowship in psychiatry and child/adolescent psychiatry at Maricopa Integrated Health System in Phoenix, Arizona. Board certified in psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry, he currently serves as the medical director for the inpatient psychiatric unit at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Zaharopoulos has administrative duties further developing the inpatient program. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and currently serves as the secretary for the Arizona Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
