Description

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the diagnostic criteria, incidence, prevalence and natural history of diabetes mellitus
  • Manage the initial diagnosis of diabetes mellitus
  • Identify the common acute and chronic complications of poorly treated diabetes mellitus
  • Explore the use of advanced technologies, including Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM) and Insulin Pumps in the management of pediatric diabetes
  • Discuss the use of “artificial pancreas” technology

The program was planned, implemented and accredited by the Kansas Association of Osteopathic Medicine (KAOM).

The Kansas Association of Osteopathic Medicine is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 1.0 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Ryan J. McDonough, DO, Children’s Mercy Hospital – Kansas City
Dr. McDonough received his DO degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is certified in Pediatric Endocrinology and Pediatrics. He holds licenses to practice medicine in Missouri and Kansas. He practices at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City in pediatric endocrinology and telemedicine. Dr. McDonough is a medical informaticist in Medical Informatics and Telemedicine and is the Co-Director of the Diabetes Center. He serves as an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine and as a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
