Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1)  Understand how to identify foot complications associated with diabetes.
2)  Understand current treatment options for diabetic foot ulcerations.
3)  Understand how to educate diabetic patients on proper foot care.
4)  Understand how to better evaluate diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy and/or peripheral vascular disease, while focusing on prevention of complications in this at risk patient population.

Dr. Houseman completed his undergraduate training at Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, after which he completed his doctorate at Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Independence, OH.  Following medical school, he completed his podiatric medicine and surgery residency at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital in Wyandotte, MI.  Dr. Houseman is a podiatrist with Goshen Physicians Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.  He is certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery®. Nearly a decade of education, training and private practice have advanced his proficiency in diagnosing and treating diseases, deformities, disorders and traumatic injuries of the foot and ankle.  A leader in wound care, Dr. Houseman has extensive experience providing diabetic wound care and limb preservation.  His comprehensive approach to wound management includes coordination of hyperbaric oxygen therapy at Goshen Wound Clinic to accelerate healing of chronic wounds.  Dr. Houseman’s clinical experience has taken him from outpatient and inpatient settings to the emergency room and surgery center.  The broad range of conditions he treats include toenail conditions, fractures, sprains, strains and tendonitis of the foot and ankle.  Dr. Houseman also provides care for plantar fasciitis, flat foot pain, bunions and hammertoes.
