A graduate of New York Institute of Technology / Old Westbury, Dr. Downey did her Family Medicine Internship and Residency at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine St. Barnabus Hospital in Long Island, NY. She was a Family Physician in the United States Army for sixteen years and then practiced in Charlottesville, VA. She is co-founder of Charlottesville Direct Primary Care.

The Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association (VOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.
