Diuretic Resistance

Diuretic resistance is common problem in various areas of clinical medicine such

as congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, nephrotic syndrome, cirrhosis

and hypertension. This is more common than many realize. Understanding how

and why this occurs can lead to more effective treatments and decreased

hospitalizations.

 

Challenges in Uro-Gynecology

In this session, we will be learning about where the Urology and Gynecology Venn diagrams cross over. Where one specialty begins and the other ends is always up to interpretation and as such, we will be reviewing different aspects of the Uro-Gyn work up, as well as diagnosis and treatment of the different ailments, including pelvic organ prolapse, incontinence and pelvic pain.

 

Urologic Controversies: PSA and BPH

In this session, we'll be discussing everyone's favorite test to disagree on...PSA! The presentation with focus on current literature regarding the pros and cons of screening, recent and emerging ancillary tests to PSA, treatment related costs, as well as updates to treatment algorithms. The second half of the presentation will focus on current and emerging medical and surgical treatments of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Dr. Mark Baldwin graduated from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences – College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1983. He completed a rotating internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine – Midwestern University and a fellowship in Renal Disease and Hypertension at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Baldwin is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine and as a Medical Examiner by the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. He is also certified as a Specialist in Clinical Hypertension by the American Society of Hypertension.

During his twenty-plus years in private practice in Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Baldwin was actively involved in all medical education levels. He developed and taught the renal curriculum at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine for fifteen years. Dr. Baldwin is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Yakima, Washington. He is involved in research on chronic kidney disease in agricultural workers and has received numerous teaching awards.

Matt Uhlman is second generation Urologist practicing in his hometown of Yakima, Washington. His training took him to UW, Duke, Iowa and now back home. He loves spending time with his best half, Missa, and their three boys, traveling, food blogging, spending time with friends and exploring the Northwest.  My goal for this presentation is for the audience to gain a better understanding of ways to effectively treat and combat the issues that will face your geriatric patients.
