Description

It can be difficult to disentangle the overlapping symptoms of substance abuse and other mental illnesses. Dr. Gretchen Alexander provides some insight to the often co-occurring conditions.

 

Objectives: 

•  Differentiate the comorbidity of psychiatric disorders and substance abuse disorders

•  Mitigate the benefits of integrated treatments for dual disorders

•  Formulate strategies for preventing relapse of comorbid patients

 

 

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). The Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association (AOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.

Gretchen Alexander, MD Related Seminars and Products


Gretchen Alexander, MD practices with the District Medical Group at Maricopa Medical Center, where she is an attending psychiatrist on the Inpatient Psychiatry Service and Associate Program Director for the MIHS Psychiatry Residency Training Program.  She is board certified in Adult Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry. Dr. Alexander is an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix and an Instructor in Psychiatry at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. She is a graduate of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.  and completed her training in Adult Psychiatry at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

 

Dr. Alexander is Immediate Past President of the Arizona Medical Association, past president of the Arizona Psychiatric Society, and a member of the American Psychiatric Association.
