Learning Objectives:

Upon proper completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Select appropriate candidates for influenza treatment or prophylaxis based on signs, symptoms, and risk factors
  • Demonstrate appropriate timing of antiviral initiation based on patient characteristics and current evidence, without awaiting laboratory test results
  • Devise regimens for influenza treatment and prophylaxis that are proven to reduce the duration of illness, viral shedding, and related complications

Michael P. Angarone, DO— Dr. Angarone is a graduate of Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He completed an Internal medicine Residency at Loyola University and a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University.  He is an Infectious Disease specialist at Northwestern Medicine and has been a faculty member since 2009. His practice focuses on the evaluation and treatment of infections in immune compromised individuals, including recipients of organ and stem cell transplants, those on immune suppressive therapy and those with HIV/AIDS. He is also involved in the education of medical students as the Clerkship Director for the Medicine Sub-Internship at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine and the education of medical residents and Infectious Disease Fellows as one of the Core Clinical Faculty Members for the Northwestern Internal Medicine Program and the Infectious Disease Fellowship.
