Description

Dr. McMurtry discusses the art of suturing for primary care physicians.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify by package materials carious elements of suture and needle
  2. Select proper wound anesthesia method and how it is applied
  3. Discuss various cleansing methods and merits of each
  4. Employ proper handling of instruments 
  5. Choose closure method for various wounds

Accreditation Statement:
The Montana Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of .75 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Grievance Policy:
All grievances should be in writing and should specify the nature of the grievance.  Initially, all grievances should be directed to MOMA Executive Director, who will then forward said grievance to the Education & Convention Committee.  All grievances will receive an initial response in writing within 30 days of receipt.  If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response, then they can then submit a complaint in writing to the Bureau of Osteopathic Education of the AOA at 142 East Ontario Street, Chicago, IL 60611.

Elizabeth McMurtry, DO, FACEP Related Seminars and Products


Elizabeth McMurtry, DO is a practicing Emergency Medicine physician and Assistant Dean of Clinical Education and Faculty Development for Pacific Northwest University, in Yakima, Washington. Dr. McMurtry received her medical degree from the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Des Moines, Iowa. She completed residency at Scott and White Memorial Hospital – Texas A&M University Health Sciences Center, in College Station, Texas. Dr. McMurtry has researched and published about emergency medicine and pediatrics and has delivered many lectures and presentations on her areas of expertise in medicine and medical education. She is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, a member of the American Medical Writers Association and a member of the Walla Walla Valley Medical Society. Dr. McMurtry has been actively involved in item writing for COMLEX-USA and COMAT exams since 2016 and was elected to the NBOME Board at the 2018 December Annual Board Meeting.
