Description

Objectives:

The disease process underlying of Covid-19 Syndrome is not yet fully understood, and the long-term effects of Covid-19 infection are even less understood.  This session will discuss Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, Multi-Inflammatory Syndrome in Children, and Exertion Fatigue  At the conclusion of the session, participants will be able to:

  1. Define each syndrome in its post-Covid role
  2. Recognize these syndromes in post-Covid patients
  3. Discussion treatment/rehabilitation options for each syndrome
  4. To better understand the various diagnostic tests for SARS-CoV-2. 
  5. To understand the clinical utility and implications of SARS-CoV-2 testing. 
  6. To be aware of pitfalls in the laboratory diagnosis of COVID-19. 

The Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 2 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Peter K. Hoftiezer DO, FAAFP practices in Chariton, Iowa. After obtaining a Bachelor of Sciencein Molecular Genetics from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, he completed his undergraduate medical training at A T Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He remained in Kirksville, Missouri where he completed his familymedicine residency training at Northeast Regional Medical Center. He then completed his Geriatrics Fellowship at Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania and subsequently earned a Master’s in Medical Education through the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He enjoys lecturing for the medical students in Kirksville and teaches there one day a week in the family medicine residency program.

Mary Malcom, DO's Profile

Mary Malcom, DO Related Seminars and Products


Dr. Malcom graduated from Des Moines University in 2001.  She started internship at Des Moines General, and completed internship at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio.  She completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Iowa Methodist Medical Center and began practice as an Emergency Medicine Physician in rural hospitals in Iowa.  Two years ago, she tried very hard to retire, but doesn't know how to live life without being awakened occasionally in the middle of the night by an emergency.  Hence, she is now Clinton County Medical Examiner.  She is also Medical Director for Clinton County 911 Dispatchers, and Lowden Rescue, and Adjunct Clinical Faculty at Des Moines University.  She continues to serve the citizens of Iowa as IOMA representative on Iowa's Trauma System Advisory Council and Iowa's Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council.

Tiffani Milless, MD's Profile

Tiffani Milless, MD Related Seminars and Products


Dr. Milless is a practicing pathologist and dermatopathologist in Des Moines, Iowa.  She is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and the University of Toledo College of Medicine.  She completed her residency in anatomical and clinical pathology at Yale New Haven Hospital and her fellowship in dermatopathology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.  She is board-certified in anatomical pathology, clinical pathology, and dermatopathology.   She currently serves as the President-elect of the Iowa Medical Society and holds a position on the advisory board of the White Coat Waste Project.  She is passionate about making sure laboratory results are relevant and understandable and making sure healthcare makes a difference in patients' lives.  Outside of work, she enjoys spending time (especially outdoors) with her husband, their two-year old daughter, and four dogs.
