Presentation Title: A Research Registry in Calm & Crisis: Lessons from the UNE Legacy Scholars Program

1. Discuss participation in a research registry focused on health and wellness in aging.
2.Explore how online engagement and support during this period of extended social distancing can be utilized.  

 

Presentation Title:Supporting mental heath & managing suicide risk during the COVID Crisis

Session Objectives:
1. Participants will appreciate the range of stresses and stressors faced during this pandemic and their impact on mental health.
2. Participants will be leave with improved understanding related to Covid stress and the risk of suicide across the patient mix. 
3. Participants will leave with a couple of tools for use in managing suicide risk.

 

The Maine Osteopathic Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.The Maine Osteopathic Association designates this program for a maximum of 1.75 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Founding Director of the UNE Center for Excellence in Aging & Health.


Dr. Tom Meuser, a clinical geropsychologist, is the Founding Director of the Center for Excellence in Aging & Health at the University of New England, a university-wide center focused on promoting applied human subject research which launched in September, 2018. He also lectures for the UNE College of Osteopathic Medicine. His early career focused on Alzheimer's disease at two medical schools - St. Louis University and Washington University in St. Louis. For the 11 years prior to moving to Maine, he directed the Gerontology Graduate Program at the University of Missouri - St. Louis. His research interests include driver fitness and transportation mobility in aging, reminiscence and life review interventions, coping with loss, and screening for cognitive impairment (and other topis). He is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and known internationally for his work on driving. Dr. Meuser was raised in Connecticut and has family in Maine, so he's thrilled to be "back home."

Greg Marley has practiced in the field of community mental health and prevention in Maine for over 25 years, as a clinician, clinical supervisor, manager and consultant.  Since 2007, he has developed and presented training and education supporting the needs of a diverse set of statewide partners in suicide prevention and systems integration of prevention activities.   Greg has presented across Maine and New England to a variety of audiences in suicide prevention, substance abuse prevention, mental health and other topics.  Since 2013 he has worked closely with schools, primary care practices, hospitals, and mental health programs to support the development and integration of protocols and processes integrating suicide prevention and management.
