Learning Objectives:

1-Discuss how chronic kidney disease (CKD) increases the risk paradoxically for both thrombosis and hemorrhage

2- Review the use of warfarin in the setting chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end stage renal disease (ESRD)

3-Review the use of new direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in the setting chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end stage renal disease (ESRD)

The Kansas Association of Osteopathic Medicine is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of .50 AOA Category 2-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Michael Selby, MD (KCU-COM) Related Seminars and Products


Dr. Selby received his MD degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Medicine. He served a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in nephrology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN.  He serves as an assistant professor of Primary Care and Subspecialty Medicine at KCU-COM Joplin campus and is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology. He also is a primary care and nephrology provider at the Joplin Community Clinic. He previously served in the nephrology and internal medicine department at the Mayo Clinic as an Instructor of Medicine.
