Mark Gittins, DO's Profile

Mark Gittins, DO Related Seminars and Products


Dr. Gittins is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine and Arthritis with extensive experience in outpatient joint reconstruction including robotic assisted knee joint replacement and the direct anterior hip replacement. Dr. Gittins received his bachelor’s degree from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana. He attended medical school at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. Upon completion of his Internship and Orthopedic Residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Gittins served an AO/ASIF Trauma Fellowship in Switzerland.

Dr. Gittins currently functions as Clinical Instructor and Staff Physician for the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine Orthopedic Residency Program. Dr. Gittins has served as team physician for USA Track and Field Team, Capital University, Big Walnut High School, and Pickerington North High School. He has also served as event physician for Ohio High School State Championships in various sports. Charity endeavors include serving as an Orthopedic Consultant for Heart to Honduras Medical Mission Group.

Dr. Gittins holds privileges at the Mt. Carmel New Albany Surgical Hospital, St. Ann’s Hospital, and Grant Medical Center. He has served on the board of AOAO. Dr. Gittins interests include robotic assisted joint replacement surgery, arthritis surgery, total joint replacement, ACL reconstruction, arthroscopy, sports medicine and orthopedic surgical outcomes.

Benjamin Szerlip, DO's Profile

Dr. Szerlip is a board-certified, fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in all aspects of the shoulder, including total and reverse shoulder replacement, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, fracture care, sports medicine injuries, as well as non-operative treatments.

Dr. Szerlip graduated from Mt. Vernon High school and earned his bachelor’s degree from the College of Wooster. After college he received additional training in clinical research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He attended medical school at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio, and completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland. Afterward, Dr. Szerlip pursued a nationally renowned fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery with the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.

Dr. Szerlip has authored multiple research publications and given national presentations on shoulder replacement design and technique. He also currently serves as an instructor to educate surgeons on advanced principles of shoulder replacement. While in Texas, he co-founded the Austin Shoulder Institute where he practiced for the past 5 years.

Nicholas A. Cheney, DO's Profile

Dr. Cheney is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in foot and ankle surgery.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree from The Ohio State University, where he also served as team captain of the varsity men’s swim team.  Following graduation, Dr. Cheney attended medical school at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and served for a number of years as a phase IV clinical instructor.

Dr. Cheney completed both his internship and orthopedic residency at Doctor’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.  Following his residency, he completed a foot and ankle fellowship with the Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  His practice emphasis includes ankle arthroplasty, heel pain, bunions, hammertoes, fractures, and foot/ankle sport injuries.  In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Cheney currently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, and a Foot & Ankle Clinical Reviewer for Orthopedics, a peer-reviewed journal covering all aspects of adult and pediatric orthopedic surgery and treatment.

Scott Stephens, MD's Profile

Dr. Scott Stephens is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery, and sports medicine. He performs all aspects of shoulder surgery from minimally invasive arthroscopy to complex shoulder replacements.  Areas of special interest include shoulder arthritis, rotator cuff, distal humerus fractures, and biceps tendon ruptures/ tendinitis. 

Dr. Stephens received his medical degree from University of Toledo School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.  Following residency, he completed dual fellowship sub-specialty training.   His first fellowship was in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy in Miami, Florida at Doctor’s Hospital where he assisted in the care and treatment of the 2013 NBA Champion Miami Heat.  He then completed a Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship at the University of Texas at San Antonio under the guidance of world-renowned shoulder and elbow surgeons Drs. Rockwood, Morrey, and Wirth.  While there, he learned the latest techniques in shoulder and elbow arthroscopy and reconstruction.

James Cassandra, DO's Profile

Dr. Cassandra is a Board Certified and Fellowship Trained Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremities conditions as well as general orthopedics, fracture care and trauma. 

Prior to joining OrthoNeuro, Dr. Cassandra worked in Tampa, Florida at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute and at OhioHealth Orthopedic Surgeons, formerly Orthopedic Specialist of Central Ohio.

Dr. Cassandra completed his undergraduate degree at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He attended medical school at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio.
