OMM Procedures for Inflammatory Diseases

Learning Objectives

  1. Explore concepts of inflammation, particularly in significant systemic disease
  2. Relate osteopathic principles and practices in settings of significant systemic disease
  3. Establish realistic applications of manipulative therapies in various settings of illness and healthcare delivery

The North Carolina Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of .75 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Dr. Marta Bringhurst is an assistant professor of OMM at the Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine and serves as Year 1 OMM Course Director.  She received her medical degree from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences.  She completed her residency in Family Medicine at the Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, Ohio and a residency in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital in Cleveland Ohio.  Dr. Bringhurst is the President and CEO of Girl Med Media, Inc. and has served on the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Osteopathy.

Charles Smutny III, DO's Profile

Dr. Charles J. Smutny III is currently an Assistant Professor of Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine at the Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine.  He is board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Osteopathy.  He graduated from NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine with honors 1994 completing the 5-year undergraduate fellowship in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.  He carries a Certificate of Proficiency in Osteopathy in the Cranial Field and holds licensure in Acupuncture through the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA 2001. Dr. Smutny currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the NC Osteopathic Medical Association.
