Description

In this lecture, Dr. Karen Snider describes and administers the osteopathic manipulative treatment approach to the management of tension headaches.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define and discuss diagnostic criteria for tension headaches
  2. Explain the pathophysiology including the etiology, epidemiology, and risk factors of tension headaches
  3. Discuss the clinical manifestations and the physical examination findings of tension headaches
  4. Describe and administer the osteopathic manipulative treatment approach to the management of tension headaches and discuss the treatment goals of the various types of techniques 
  5. Identify measures to prevent occurrence and recurrence of tension headaches

The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 1.25 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Karen Snider, DO, FAAO, FNAOME, is a professor at A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM).  Dr. Snider is board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.  She earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and she completed residency at Northeast Regional Medical Center.  Dr. Snider has earned fellowship awards from the American Academy of Osteopathy and the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators. She has no commerical interests related to the content of this program.
