The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS)  is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 8 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation.

The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Dr. Martin Schwarze is a Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology of St. Louis University Hospitals and the past Chief of Cardiology at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He is currently a physician with the Barnes-Jewish Christian Medical Group.

Dr. Schwarze graduated from the AT Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri, in 1973. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Normandy Osteopathic Hospitals in St. Louis, Missouri.  He completed his Fellowship in Cardiology at St. Louis University Hospital, where he continued to teach echocardiology part-time for 15 years. Upon completing the fellowship, Dr. Schwarze established a private practice, which existed for 32 years.  His group is now part of the BJC Medical Group in the Metropolitan St. Louisarea. Dr. Schwarze is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Schwarze has researched echocardiology, congestive heart failure, and lipid therapy, which has resulted in several publications in these areas. He has spoken at numerous national programs and has been the program chairman of many educational symposia in cardiology. Dr. Schwarze has received four "Educator of the Year" awards and is a Master Fellow in the American College of Osteopathic Internists and a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology. He is also the past President of the St. Louis Chapter of the American Heart Association (AHA). He has received the Hugh McCollough Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the St. Louis Chapter of the AHA and a lifetime teaching award from Des Peres Hospital.

Merideth Norris, DO's Profile

Dr. Merideth Norris has been working in Maine for over 15 years. Her practice scope includes Osteopathic Family Medicine and treating substance use disorder, obesity, and pain management. She has worked in emergency departments all over Maine, as well as detox facilities, inpatient treatment environments, methadone clinics, and outpatient recovery centers. Dr. Norris is the Medical Director of Enso Recovery and has a private practice. Dr. Norris is board certified in Osteopathic Family Medicine by the American Board of Osteopathic Family Medicine, in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Addiction Medicine, and in Obesity Medicine by the American Board of Obesity Medicine.

She is frequently seen in the press advocating for available resources for people with substance use disorder and drafts large amounts of testimony to the state legislation on opioid policy and treatment access. She has been interviewed as an addiction expert on both local public radio and the national Reelz network. Recently, Dr. Norris became certified as a Ringside Physician by USA Boxing and became the medical consultant for Susan Elia MacNeal, author of the Maggie Hope detective series. Dr. Norris has three children.

Brian Kaufman, DO FACP FASAM is the President of the Maine Osteopathic Association. Dr. Smith is an Associate Professor and Chief of Psychiatry at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Founding Psychiatry Residency Program Director at Portsmouth Regional Hospital's new GME program affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Smith is a board certified Psychiatrist by the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. 

Dr. Smith worked as the sole psychiatrist in Washington County, Maine, for five years before pursuing other opportunities. He is currently clinically active at the State Psychiatric Hospital in Concord, New Hampshire. He serves on the Maine Board of Osteopathic Licensure and is the Clerkship Director of Psychiatry for the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Smith has spoken nationally and at several regional educational programs in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.

Tracy Stroud, DO's Profile

Dr. Stroud is a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician practicing at the Thompson Center at the University of Missouri. Dr. Stroud attended Valparaiso University, majoring in chemistry, biology, and psychology. She graduated from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois, in 1997. Dr. Stroud attended pediatric residency training at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. After graduating in 2000, she began her career as a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician at the University of Missouri. She is board certified in General Pediatrics and Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics by the American Academy of Pediatrics. 

Dr. Stroud is the division director of the University of Missouri Child Health Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics Program.  She orchestrates and participates in numerous multidisciplinary clinics, including the special needs clinic, NICU follow-up clinic, clinic for children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome clinic, autism clinics, general developmental clinics,  craniofacial clinic, and 22 q 11 deletion clinic. Dr. Stroud is a HUB team member on three ECHO programs: Child Psychiatry, Sleep, and Head Start. She is active in the Missouri First Steps program and enjoys teaching numerous medical students and residents each year.

Dr. Jonathon Mitchem received his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. He completed his general surgery residency at Washington University in St. Louis and a Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at the Lahey Clinic in Boston, Massachusetts. He is board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He is also certified in Colon and Rectal Surgery by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Mark Baldwin graduated from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences – College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1983. He completed a rotating internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine – Midwestern University and a fellowship in Renal Disease and Hypertension at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Baldwin is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine and as a Medical Examiner by the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. He is also certified as a Specialist in Clinical Hypertension by the American Society of Hypertension.

During his twenty-plus years in private practice in Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Baldwin was actively involved in all medical education levels. He developed and taught the renal curriculum at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine for fifteen years. Dr. Baldwin is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Yakima, Washington. He is involved in research on chronic kidney disease in agricultural workers and has received numerous teaching awards.

Stephen Sheldon, DO, FAAP, FAASM's Profile

Dr. Sheldon is Professor of Pediatrics & Neurology, Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine and Director of the Sleep Medicine Center of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. He is very active in pediatric sleep medicine's clinical practice and has an intense involvement in pediatric sleep medical education and research.  

He is a graduate of the Midwestern University's Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his pediatrics residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center, Chicago. He has also completed a visiting faculty fellowship in Medical Education at Southern Illinois University Medical School and a faculty fellowship in Sleep Disorders Medicine at the University of Chicago.  He is board certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and in Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Sleep Medicine. 

Dr. Sheldon has served the profession in many capacities, including a consultant to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) in primary care pediatrics. He has also served on many boards within the profession.

Dr. Sheldon is the author of Pediatric Differential Diagnosis (Raven Press 1979), Pediatric Sleep Medicine (WB Saunders 1992), Evaluating Sleep in Infants and Children (Lippincott-Raven 1995), Atlas of Sleep Medicine in Infants and Children (Futura Publishers 2000), Differential Diagnosis in Sleep Medicine (Futura Publisher), and is Editor-in-Chief of the premier textbook for the medical profession on diagnosing and managing all sleep problems in infant and children entitled Principles and Practice of Pediatric Sleep Medicine 1st and 2nd Editions (Elsevier-WB Saunders, 2005 and 2014) and is Editor-in-Chief of Principles and Practice of Pediatric Sleep Medicine, 3rd Edition (Elsevier, in preparation).  Dr. Sheldon is also Co-Editor with Dr. Anna Fishbein of the textbook Allergy and Sleep: Basic Principles and Clinical Practice, Springer Publishers, 2020.

Dr. Sheldon discloses that he received research support from Jazz Pharmaceuticals. He received a consultant fee from Idorsia Pharmaceuticals. He also received an honorarium for being a subject author for Up-to-Date.
 


Joseph Carrington, DO, MHA's Profile

Dr. Joseph Carrington is an Iowa native and a graduate of Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine where he earned a dual-degree Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine and Master’s of Healthcare Administration. He went on to do his internal medicine residency at the Johns Hopkins University/ Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed his fellowship in pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. During his fellowship he also served as chief fellow and was awarded “research fellow of the year” and “house officer of the year”. His research interests were in the inflammatory pathways of inhalational lung injury and recovery; including IL-6 and IL-10.  His research was presented at the American College of Chest Physicians annual conference where he was awarded for being one of the top 5 presentations that year. Returning to Iowa, Dr. Carrington now works as an intensivist and pulmonologist at MercyOne in Des Moines, Iowa.
