Learning Objectives:

Ultrasound in the Office

  • Be able to list at least three uses for Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in the family practice office
  • Understand how to safely use Ultrasound to assist with joint injections
  • Understand how to use Ultrasound to diagnose pneumonia in the family practice office
  • Understand how to use Ultrasound to estimate fluid status in the family practice office

 

The Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 2 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Dr. Benzoni has practiced EM since completing medical school in 1983. He spent 4 years with the Public Health Service in the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky. There he helped to build a hospital that still functions today. After a stint in New York, he lived, worked and developed a trauma center in Sioux City, where he put DC10s in corn fields. He worked with the state of Iowa in developing Iowa’s trauma system. He has worked with patients in pain for his entire career, working before the opioid epidemic. Dr. Benzoni currently works at a Trauma Center in Des Moines and teaches medical and PA students.

Ben Howard, DO's Profile

Ben Howard, DO Related Seminars and Products


Dr. Ben Howard is in his first year as a faculty physician with MercyOne Family Medicine Residency in Des Moines, IA. Prior to joining the MercyOne faculty, he was a practicing family physician at Cass County Health System in Atlantic, IA with an emphasis on full spectrum Family Medicine, including obstetrics. He developed an interest in ultrasound, particular obstetrical ultrasound, during residency. This interest continued into practice, where he often used ultrasound for his obstetric and non-obstetric patients. Along with his faculty role at MercyOne, he has also been completing a one-year ultrasound fellowship through the Ultrasound Leadership Academy. Ultimately, his goal is to create a formal ultrasound curriculum for the residency program.

Dr. Howard is a native of central Iowa. He completed an undergraduate degree in Animal Science at Iowa State University. He obtained his medical degree from Des Moines University and then completed a residency in Family Medicine with the Memorial Hospital of South Bend Family Medicine Residency Program.
