Beverly Roberts-Atwater, DO, PhD


Dr. Roberts-Atwater received both a PhD in Psychology and a DO degree from Michigan State University. She did an Osteopathic Medicine Internship at UMDNJ, Robert Wood Johnson in Newark, NJ and a PM&R Residency at JFK Johnson Rehab Institute in Edison, NJ. Dr. Roberts-Atwater completed a Health Policy Fellowship at Ohio University/New York Institute of Technology in Cleveland, OH. Dr. Roberts Atwater currently is Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Eastern Virginia Medical School. She served as Medical Director of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was nominated and selected by Dr. James Madras, AMA, CEO in 2018, to serve on the national PM&R, program review Committee for ACGME. Her current research and clinical interest have been in the area of spasticity and pain management, particularly as it relates to neuro-rehabilitation challenges in the presence of impaired physical function and acute and chronic pain.
