Carl Vartian


Dr. Carl Vartian currently serves as the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for the HCA-Gulf Coast Division, which includes 18 Texas hospitals in Houston, Corpus Christi and the Rio Grande Valley. Dr. Vartian joined the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) in 2008. He previously served as the VPMA at West Houston and Bayshore Medical Centers before moving into his current role.

Dr. Vartian received his MD degree from the State University of New York-Downstate Medical School. He went on to complete an internal medicine residency at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital and an infectious disease fellowship at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. Dr. Vartian holds a Master of Science degree in Health Informatics from The University of Texas School of Biomedical Informatics. He is board certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases and clinical informatics and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
