Matthew Misner

Dr. Misner is pediatrician recently hired to work with the St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Plymouth, IN.  He completed a four year National Health Service Corps scholarship, while working with both the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma and the migrant Hispanic population in California, after receiving his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) in Lake Erie, PA, in 2004. Dr. Misner has a strong passion to work with under-served populations both in domestic and international settings.  He learned to speak Spanish while serving as a Catholic missionary with his family, in Arequipa, Peru, for two years and has also lived and worked in the Marshall Islands.  He continues to seek out new international opportunities and is currently considering volunteering in Pakistan for 2 weeks.  Dr. Misner is able to assist with face-to-face home hospice visits for both adult and pediatric patients through the Center for Hospice Care while not working at his clinic.  Dr. Misner also is impassioned to learn and teach both theology and bioethics and has a master’s degree in Pastoral Studies from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, IL, and is currently finishing a master’s degree in Bioethics from the University of Mary in Bismark, ND.  He would like to eventually complete a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame, in South Bend, IN, in the Theology Department, and then teach either/both undergraduate and/or graduate students.  Dr. Misner has a wonderful wife, Karissa, who is the medical director of the Center for Hospice Care, in Mishawaka, IN, and he greatly enjoys spending time with his three terrific children: Lydia (11), Violet (8), and Tyrian (3).
