Michael LeFevre, MD, MSPH


Michael LeFevre, MD, MSPH, is the Future of Family Medicine Professor and Vice Chair of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Missouri – Columbia, and the Medical Director for Population Health for MU Health Care.  As Medical Director for the Department of Family Medicine, he has administrative oversight of family medicine, urgent care and quick care practices in eight locations with over 150,000 annual visits.  He teaches residents and medical students in the inpatient and outpatient settings and maintains an active practice across the full breadth of Family Medicine including inpatient work and, through 2012, obstetrics.  He served as Chief Medical Information Officer for MU Health Care and directed the implementation of the electronic medical record across the health system from 2002 through 2012.  Much of his academic effort has been in the area of evidence based medicine and clinical policies, and he completed more than a decade of work on the United States Preventive Services Task Force in April of 2016, including three years as co-vice chair and a year as chair. He was also a member of the Joint National Conference on Prevention, Detection and Treatment of Hypertension (JNC 8). He was elected to the Institute of Medicine in 2011. He has B.S.E.E., M.D. and M.S.P.H. degrees from the University of Missouri and has been on faculty there since 1984.
