Mitch Barnett


Mitchell Barnett is the Associate Director of the Iowa Prescription Monitoring Program with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy and Iowa Department of Public Health.  Mitch earned his undergraduate degree in pharmacy from the University of Iowa, along with his master’s degree and doctorate in pharmacy. He then went on to complete a post-doc fellowship in patient outcomes and health services research at the University of Iowa and Touro University, CA.  While relatively new to the world of PMP, Mitch has been actively involved in health services research and patient claims analyses for 20 years, including holding positions at the Iowa City VA Medical Center-Center of Excellence and Touro University-California, College of Pharmacy as an associate professor.  Mitch has published over 60 research articles and book chapters and has presented at numerous regional, national and international meetings. He also has over 30 years experience as a practicing community pharmacist.
