Raymond J. Hruby, DO, MS, FAAO (Dist)


Raymond J. Hruby, DO, MS FAAO (Dist), graduated from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1973.  He interned at the Osteopathic Hospital of Maine in Portland, Maine, from 1973 to 1974.  After being in osteopathic family practice from 1974 to 1978, he became a member of the Service of Osteopathic Medicine at the Osteopathic Hospital of Maine, and was director of this service from 1981 to 1985.  From 1985 to 1990, Dr. Hruby was in private practice in San Diego, California.  In 1990, he became an associate professor in the Department of Osteopathic Principles and Practice at the University Of New England College Of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine.  In 1993, he was appointed to the position of Director of Predoctoral Education at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.  In 1995, he accepted the position of professor and chairperson of the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan.  In 1999 he became professor and chair of the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at the Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pomona, California.  He recently “retired” from this position, but continues his work at Western University as a consultant to the Department of NMM/OMM.  In this capacity he is involved with teaching, research, curriculum analysis and development, and mentoring of new faculty and Predoctoral OMM Fellows.  He is also involved with Western University’s Interprofessional Education program, and he lectures part-time in the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences, among others.

       Dr. Hruby is certified in osteopathic manipulative medicine and in family practice, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO).  He was President of the AAO from1990 to 1991. He is the recipient of the Andrew Taylor Still Medallion of Honor and the AAO’s Distinguished Fellow Award. He has taught osteopathic principles and techniques for many years, both nationally and internationally.  He is an avid jazz musician and lives in California with his wife Karen and three cats, Serena, Della and Gemma.
