Ryan Smith, DO, PhD

Dr. Smith is Chief of Psychiatry at UNECOM and an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry. He leads the Division of Psychiatry as well as the UNECOM OMS-II Psychiatry Curriculum and is involved in the crafting of the clinical rotation psychiatry curricula. He also is immediate past Chair of the COM Curriculum Committee (Curriculum Advisory Committee, CAC). He is a Diplomat of the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry (AOBNP) and is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). He advises our Neuropsychiatry Club and also is co-Advisor for the Gold Humanism Award. He was named 2014-2015 UNECOM Clinical Faculty Member of the Year as well as 2016 Maine Osteopathic Association Young Physician of the Year., and 2018 American Osteopathic Foundation's (AOF's) James Lally, DO, Emerging Leader of the Year. He was Chair of the COMAT Psychiatry Examination Committee for the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) and is now Chair of the Department Chair of Psychiatry, Neurology, and Clinical Neurosciences, and is involved in a number of different activities within the NBOME. He also serves on the Maine Board of Osteopathic Licensure as a Board Member.
