Ted Okerson, MD


Ted received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Oral Roberts University and went on to complete a residency/chief residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California Irvine (UCI). He then entered full-time clinical practice in Yorba Linda, and was one of the founders of St. Jude Heritage Medical Group (now Providence Health Care) where he focused on the prevention and aggressive treatment of cardiovascular and metabolic disease. He was also board-certified as a Specialist in Clinical Hypertension. 
 

After 14 years in clinical practice and medical staff leadership, Ted moved into biopharmaceuticals, as a Regional Scientific Director (MSL) at Novartis covering San Diego and Orange County. While there, he earned a Master of Advanced Studies degree in Clinical Research at the University of California San Diego and was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCI. He went on to several Medical Director/Medical Affairs roles at a number of different pharmaceutical firms. He briefly returned to his original clinical practice at St. Jude Heritage in 2013, only to rejoin a Medical Affairs role with Amgen in early 2015. While at Amgen, Ted launched Corlanor, and then served as the Repatha Medical Director. He joined AstraZeneca as a Senior Field Physician, Cardiovascular/Metabolic in March 2019.
 

Ted is board-certified in Internal Medicine, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology, and a Fellow of The Obesity Society. He has three grown “children,” and resides with his wife and two dogs in Irvine, California. He’s a long-time runner, bicyclist and a huge fan of the Anaheim Ducks.
